cross on spanish bible      A message from Leith Anderson on behalf of the Evangelical Immigration Table: Depending on where you get your news, you might have heard in recent weeks either that: 1.) Immigration negotiations have fallen apart in the House of Representatives, or 2) House Leadership is on the verge of introducing legislation that they are optimistic will pass. For the millions of Americans around the country who urgently want to see common sense immigration reforms passed into law, it is an uncertain time. For those of us who are Christians, though, our hope rests not primarily in the leadership of the House of Representatives, nor in the President or any other human being, but in God, who is sovereign even over the decisions made by political leaders.  Scripture tells us, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes” (Proverbs 21:1 NKJV). Our God invites us to come together and bring our requests before Him in prayer.  “If two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask,” Jesus tells his disciples, “it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:19-20). Across the United States, evangelical leaders are asking that you come together with other believers—across the lines of ethnicity, political affiliation, and denomination that sometimes divide us—for a week of concentrated prayer for the House of Representatives as they consider changes to our immigration laws. Churches across the country will be participating in #Pray4Reform: Gathered Together in Jesus’ Name during the week of From October 12th-20th. Please join us for a local prayer gathering in your area. Check out our website to see if there is an event already confirmed near you; if there is, please plan to join us, and think about who else you could invite. If there’s not yet an event in your area, you can download our kit for hosting a #Pray4Reform gathering, plan a gathering, and then share the details with us at www.pray4reform.org. Whether it’s thousands of people or just “two or three… gathered together” in Jesus’ name, we can be confident that Jesus will be present with us and that God hears the cries of his people.
